About Us
The department was established in the year 1856 with Prof. Persi Powell as Dean of Languages. Many stalwarts like Prof. Visaga Perumal Iyer, Dr. U.V. Samynatha Iyer, Thozhuthoor Velayutham, Ka. Namachivayar, T.P. Meenakshi Sundaram, C. Lakuvanar headed and glorified the department. UG, PG, M.Phil., and Ph.D. courses are offered. At present 22 professors with multi dimensional talents are working here.
