About Us
The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) Centre at P.G. & Research Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Chennai was established on 28 March 2007.. This Centre had been developed under the programme BTIS net by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India for the promotion of Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI) .
The centre has been very useful among the teachers, students and the researchers who are involved with biological research in and across the country. The centre also provides free high speed internet FTTH connection (100 mbps) to the science departments in the host institute for the benefit of faculty and students. More than 50 students are using the centre facility on all working days free of charge. During workshops / training programs about 30 participants are regularly trained. The centre has developed linkages within all the BTIS net Bioinformatics centres in Chennai. National level workshops, hands on training sessions, are regularly conducted.
The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility centre is equipped with the latest High end server & Medium server, Desktop system with Operating System (windows and linux) and other academic bioinformatics software & online servers.
